The Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) of the Global Institute of Artificial Intelligence (GIofAI) signifies the institution’s dedication to engaging with the knowledge and practices of the world’s oldest continuing civilization, in collaboration with First Nations community leaders. This commitment is directed towards the provision of upskilling opportunities aimed at societal enhancement.

Vision

GIofAI recognizes the historical and ongoing injustices experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Australia. As a responsible and ethical institution, GIofAI is committed to fostering reconciliation, promoting greater economic and social equity, and creating a supportive environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. GIofAI envisions a future where reconciliation is embedded in all aspects of its operations, where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are valued, respected, and empowered, and where opportunities for their economic and social advancement are realized.

Key Objectives

  • Integrate Indigenous cultural competency training into induction and professional development.
  • Provide equal employment opportunities by actively recruiting and retaining Indigenous staff.
  • Engage and partner with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Develop culturally relevant education and training programs, including scholarships and mentorship.
  • Prioritize procurement from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander–owned businesses.

Actions

  • Offer a 10% discount on programs and services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
  • Implement a recruitment and retention strategy with targets, training for managers, and support networks.
  • Make cultural competency training mandatory for all staff.
  • Establish partnerships with Elders and Indigenous organizations for meaningful collaboration.
  • Introduce scholarships for Indigenous students in AI, with mentorship and resource access.
  • Develop a supplier diversity policy to support Indigenous-owned businesses.

Evaluation

GIofAI will monitor and evaluate progress through regular progress reports, stakeholder feedback, and annual reviews against objectives and targets, making adjustments as needed to ensure ongoing effectiveness and relevance.
